More Trout Lillies

Nice stands of Erythronium americanum at the arboretum.

 

The name “trout lily” refers to the appearance of its gray-green leaves mottled with brown or gray, which allegedly resemble the coloring of brook trout.

Another name for it is yellow dogtooth violet. 

I think the former is eminently more fitting.
